Tips to Help You Prepare for the Next Snowstorm

Last February, we were all taken by surprise by all of the ice and snow that hit Lubbock, TX. Many houses lost electricity and had their pipes freeze. Some people’s pipes busted because of the freeze and caused severe damage to their homes. It is predicted that Texas will see another snowstorm this coming Winter and we want to provide you with some tips so that you and your families can be better prepared for the next time.

• Get a house inspection.
  • You want to make sure you have good insulation to keep you warm in the house.
  • You want to make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors work.
• If possible, purchase a generator. With the low temperature’s snowstorms bring, if your power goes out it is best to have a generator so that you can stay warm.
• Learn how to keep pipes from freezing.
  • Keep water dripping 24/7
  • If you have a garage keep the garage closed
  • Keep cabinets open
  • If possible, purchase a heat gun. A heat gun quickly thaws frozen pipes and can release heat up to 1000 degrees.
• Gather non-perishable foods in case you need to stay home for a prolonged period of time.
  • Grocery stores, gas stations, and many other places closed down during the last snowstorm and people’s food became scarce.
• Get rock salt so that you can melt the ice on your driveway and walkways.
• Finally, stay safe and warm
